THE "DEVELOPING FOREST ENERGY" PROJECT
|
The Developing Forest Energy project lasts for three years and is operated jointly by The Forest Centre of South Ostrobothnia and Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. The Forest Centre leads the project and takes care of the advice and information activities. The tasks of Seinäjoki University of Applied Science are aimed mainly at the research and development work.
The project’s area of operation is the same 1.25 million hectares of forest that the Forest Centre of South Ostrobothnia covers. The project consists of eight different work packages and the funds come mainly from the European Union.
The first aim of the project is to comprehensively clarify: the potential possibilities for forest energy, the problems facing the forest energy sector and the information needed by it. The second aim is to promote the use of forest energy both regionally and globally. Other aims are to improve the energy self-sufficiency and economic viability of rural areas as well as to fight climate change.
